“Yes, sir, I brought five sets,” Landry replied pointing to his case.

“Good. Allan, I think I’d better break the news to President Karpov. This is going to get sticky. Do any of you think the Russian government was involved?” All shook their heads, responding in the negative. Alexander continued, “I’ll call President Karpov first thing tomorrow morning. George, and you too, Teresa, be prepared to depart for Moscow tomorrow. I’m sure President Karpov will require a personal explanation. Afterwards, I expect you’ll be meeting with your Russian counterparts.”

Surprised by the president’s statement, Teresa and Landry looked at each other before nodding their acceptance of his order.

Alexander smiled at them, then continued, “Allan, please inform our ambassador in Moscow. Ask him to provide support. Same goes for both of you,” the president said looking at Clark and Wellington.”

Addressing George and Teresa, Alexander said, “In addition to Doctor Chin, copy all of us with your reports. Contact me directly if you find something important. I suspect you’re about to go on a treasure hunt.”

Alexander closed his dark-blue, leather notepad case with the MOAA crest embossed on the front, signaling the meeting was over. “Martha, due to the lateness of the hour, let’s postpone our meeting until tomorrow morning. I usually get to my office by 0700.” Alexander stood. “We’ll reconvene tomorrow at 1400 hours.”
